I always wanted a doll house

So when my mother-in-law said she found a big wooden one at a yard sale with all the furniture for only $40, I told her to snatch it up! For Claire. Right. Then I begged her to let me refinish it. I've always loved miniatures, maybe because I'm kind of a miniature person.

This is going to be the Big Gift for Claire's birthday at the end of the year. Here it is in its current condition:

And the modern dollhouse inspiration out there is too amazing:

I particularly like this last one, mostly because I have some similar paint colors already from some test pots I bought. Also, I think I could perhaps get some peel-and-stick vinyl in a hardwood print. This is going to be too much fun! For Claire. Right.

Oh, such a great find! I could go crazy with a dollhouse - miniatures are the best.

Promise to post some updates as you work on it?

Rachel: the Indianapolis Children's Museum has the most amazing miniatures display that I adored growing up. I go back there now and still love it.

I will definitely try to post some updates as I go, thanks!

What a find! We have been making dollhouse food (AMAZING STUFF) recently. I got this book:

There is a whole series from them on making minatures for your dollhouse that is really good! My daughter and I have been making the food together.

I always wanted the kind of dollhouse that you got--the kind that the doors close on. Are you going to add windows to the other sides?

Miniature food is on my list for Christmas and an end-of the year birthday for my oldest daughter as well.
